Default New Tank Suggestions

Hello, I am in the process of setting up a newly acquired aquarium. It is 36 inches long x 12 inches deep x 18 tall. I currently have an African cichlid tank with arautus, kenyi, johanni, and synodontis eruptus, and another tank set up with tetras, barbs, and cory’s. I would like to have something different for this tank, and welcome all suggestions.
Thanks

Something different for the new tank (36x12X18). Sorry for the confusion.

well your stock really depends on what types of fish you're into. i myself am into the strange fish, such as stingrays, arowanas, knifefish, eels, etc. If you wanted to go that way you may be able to get a peacock eel, or a brown knifefish (the knifefish may eventually need to be moved into a 55 but not for a while). I'm not sure how an elephant fish would work in a 30 but i think they would be okay for a little while. they get to be about 8 inches.
butterfly fish are also very nice fish. Ive never had any but they are very interesting and there are a few people on FF that keep them.
This would be my way of going about a tank, but if you're into a community, you could try the tetras, cories, mollies, barbs (caution), guppies, and maybe a bristlenose pleco or another kind of fancy pleco (i keep a clown pleco and it's very nice).

what you put in your tank is really up to you only, so maybe check out your LFS to find some fish you really like and do some research as what will go together and thrive in your tank.

good luck!

livebearers are always good and that tank will allow for several different kinds incluing mollies, platies(my fav.), guppies, maybe a few swords, and halfbeaks

I really wanted something sort of shiny like tinfoils, however they get too large for this aquarium. I was thinking possibly silver dollars, but think that they would be border line for this size aquarium. I also was considering an exodon tank set up, which would work the best? Exo's would be species only, but what could go with the silver dollars providing the tank space is adequate?
Thanks!

Exos get more massive than Silver Dollars, so you wouldn't be saving any space with them. As for what can go with Silver dollars, well...lots of things as long as they're small and peaceful. How many depends on how many Silver Dollars you have, of course.

Sounds like a 38gallon tank.

do u mean exodons as in the the bucktoothed tetra?

Exodon Paradoxus?

i found this on a fish profiles site:

"Definitly NOT FOR THE COMMUNITY AQUARIUM! they are carnivores, and will attack many fish, including oscars! keep as a shoal of 12 or more fish in a speies tank."

so i dunno if you'd want that...

As for the number of silver dollars, I was thinking about four or five. Would this be an acceptable amount, and what would be some good tank mates for this number of silver dollars?
Thanks!

Well you can keep silver dollars in a 30-40 gallon for a while, but remember they get salad plate in size, they won't be happy in there forever.
