Default Best fishy

Im setting up a 10 gallon tropical freshwater tank, ive been planing it for months now, i cant set it up yet because the room im putting it in is getting redone (new carpet, new paint, new furnature etc) so in my spare time all ive been doing is reading about fish on the internet and stuff. Ive decided to get zebra danios, a molly and a betta. but i think that it might look kinda boring, so i was wondering what do you think would be a good pretty fish that can live in a ten gallon? oh and i would get rid of some of the fish to make room for it.

welcome to the forums, hope you stick around, theres a lot of great helpful people here.

keep researching and reading, and be patient for the time being while you're tank completes the cycling process.
You'll find some fabulous species throughout your research. You can check some stocklists at some mailorder sites like liveaquaria.com.
I'm partial to aggressive/semi-aggressive/and community schoolers. I like tiger barbs and cories...

Tigers won't work in a 10 gallon tank. The question you have to answer is do you want more fish or a few larger ones. The danios will work fine with a small group of cories. You will be limited to the amount of fish that you can put in a 10 gallon due to mass size, bioload, and territory tendancies of each species of fish.

for a 10 i would suggest these fish (not all together of course): White clouds, long finned danios, small cories, golden wonder killies, otos, black neon tetras, mollies, platies, and guppies.

welcome to the forums, and if fish decision depends on what you're interested in. because a 10 is a very small tank you are limited, but there are still some cool fish you can keep. do u want big fish or little fish?

probably smallish fish i geuss
i've looked into rainbowfish, mollys, platys, swordtails, danios, tetras
but i dont know there might not be anything very exciting (not that those fish arent exciting) that can fit in a 10 gallon

but what is your favorite type of fish you have?

no swordtails! May favorite in fmy tropical 10 gallon was platys. You can mix many different types and colors to have a interesting tank

One thing you should do first is determine what kind of water you have. Do a hardness & pH test on it, and then you can figure out what kinds of fish would be happiest in your local type of water.

Swordtails and mollies do not make ideal choices for a 10 gallon tank. They both grow larger (up to 3 or more inches) and can be somewhat agressive. As for danios, stick to the short finned type unless you keep them with no other fish in the tank (besides cories).

danios are my favorite...simpte, why shouldnt you keep the longfinned danios with other fish beside cories?

One cool thing about danios is that you can get them in a variety of colors/patterns that are all about the same size/shape and get on well together. There are zebra ones (horizontal stripes), leopard (spots), pearl (pearly white), and gold (with gold horizontal stripes). There also seems to be an albino leopard danio (gold with spots instead of stripes); I have one of these in my tank; it was in the tank in the fish shop with the gold stripey danios.
