Surfing Guppy
This guppy is either crazy or he just really likes to surf the current. He's been doing it all night it cracks me up every time I pass the tank. I had a rummy-nose that used to do this too.

Pretty much all livebearers will do that.

i used to have a 40 breeder with an aquaclear 110 on it....several of the swordtails would line up directly in the current and set there...swimming like crazy and not going anywhere....lol

I've had suicidal guppies before that did that until they died.

When I do water changes, my guppies love to swim under the bottle that I use to pour water into the tank. They take turns getting pushed down and it almost seems as if they have competitions to see who is the "bravest" and can get closest to the gravel before escaping the current. Fish are very fun to watch; they all have different personalities and like to goof around.

fish do not die from swimming in the current...if they don't like it they will seek a calmer area...so it wasn't suicide.

A lot of fish like to swim in the water change stream because the new water has high oxygen content.

Also for stream fish current = food. My giant danios and zebra danios did this, my cherry barbs will do it, my Jack Dempsey used to do front flips in it. I had a Betta who loved to play in the current. The only fish I have never seen do it are my cory's, my rosy barbs most tetras I have had, and my pleco. But my black neon tetras did play in it.

I personally think that it's possible for a fish to strain itself if it is swimming against a current.

Well sure. You could sprain an ankle running up a hill, too.

look betta man ; you need to use your head for something other than a place to hang some hair.....fish aren't that stupid....only humans are stupid enough to continuously do things that we know jeopardizes our well being...if a fish gets caught in a current and doesn't want to be there , it will swim away and find an area without the current....and if you have a fish that doesn't like current and you somehow corral it into it so it can't escape ; then it's on you.....
