Default Clown loaches. Just hide all day

They hide all day and very seldom do I ever see it. If I do see it it is early morning with lights out. Is this normal?

Clown loaches are nocturnal fish. They come out when the lights are off. They will however get used to the lights being on and come out when they are on. How big are your clown loaches? How long have you had them?

keep in mind that clowns are shoalers..the more the merrier..in groups they feel more secure and relaxed ; and will be out and about all the time..exploring and rooting around for food.. just make sure your tank is big enough to handle them..they will grow pretty fast for the first 2 or 3 years and then slow down..they are long lived and can reach an age well over 25 years..they will also get quite large attaining a length of as much as 15"..

There about 4" long. There are mollies and one mudskipper. Tank is a 40 gal. The tank is different. Not just rectangle. If I knew how I would post pics.

You will need a bigger tank, but you have time. They grow slowly. My avatar is of my three clown loaches. It took 5+ years to get them that big. When they hit about 2 inches they start slowing down on growing. They grow pretty fast from egg to about two inches.

Yes loaches live about 50 years and in the wild they can reach 20 inches.

Here is a link about clown loaches:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clown_loach

I haven't found anywhere where it says how fast/slow they grow. But you do have time to save for a bigger tank. I am getting a 300 gallon tank when I save up the money for mine.

What do I need to feed the loaches. Since the other fish seem to eat all the food before he comes out to feed.

Clown loaches like blood worms, brine shrimp, veggies, snails. Take a look at the link loaches.com, it has a feeding section and mentions some foods that clown loaches eat. You may have to overfeed just a little so that the clown loaches get food.

I have mollies. As soon as the food is gone off the top of the water they go to the bottom and eat all the left overs. Do have irritating snails. That was the main reason for getting the loach. They are slowly diminishing. Just wander what to feed them that mollies won't eat.

I am not real sure. Clown loaches do love snails, it is their specialty. When I get snails and I drop them into my 55 gallon tank, my clown loaches find them and eat them.

Try researching different foods for clown loaches. You may want to try veggies, like peas, green beans, zuchini, cucumber, etc. Try small pieces of the zuchini and cucmber.

remove all the hiding places.
i have 10 loaches and i had the same problem so i remove all the hiding places and walaaa problem solved. they love cichlids pellets (sinking ones, 1/6") and zucchini.
they get use to not hiding, later on ad one hiding place at a time. out of my 10 loaches there are always 6 to 7 loaches swimming around all the time.
mine are like piranhas at feeding time.
keep in mind if there is a fish that they are afraid of or get harasses by you must remove that fish or you will always have that problem. they rather hide all day and come out at night rather than get use to the fish.
