Just had a question. I use prime de-chlorinator. I realize that it is pretty concentrated and works well, but are you supposed to wait a bit after you put the prime in before all the chlorine and chloramines are removed? Or is it pretty quick?
Its a quick reaction when the dechlor molecule hits chlorine molecule, but they still have to meet. Put a drop of food color in a bucket and see how long it takes to spread completely through. That is the time line you are talking about. I put the dechlor in first, then fill, then I give it a few minutes (go feed the fish or siphon out some water), then fill tanks with it. If I forget to put the dechlor in first, then I give it like half an hour after putting dechlor in on top.
when i do water changes i go down the line removing the water...then i go back and fill them..if i am doing more than 40% change i will add the dechlor just before i fill the tank..that will mix the dechlor so it removes the chlorine right away...
Nice idea with the food coloring trick. I usually put the dechlor at the bottom of the bucket then fill with water assuming the movement will mix it all together well.
