As always my desire is to know why something happens if it is not obvious. Goes witht he fact I take each fish death personally.
A friend traded me some plants for some danio fry..
They did well in the quaranteen tank until they were big enough to go into the samll community. When they were big enough for the 30 gallon community I moved them over. There were already 3 danios there as well as a few guppies, a platy and 4 small mollies and 1 dwarf rainbow fish. All went well and they grew rapidly. Then in Sept, 1 male glo danio died, then another and last night the female died. The only indication she MIGHT be unwell was that she was hovering near the top of the tank last evening. Since it was darkish in the room I assumed she was sleeping.
Well today she was dead on the bottom- no marks on her, no redness, no sores.
The 3 old danios are as usual chasing each other.
When the 2 males died they had been extremely active and jumping and I assumed concussions. One did twirl around for a couple of days before he died. They all ate well, pooped ok, had antiparasite treatments before adding to main tank.
Ideas?
Ph 7.3, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates under 10. Water changes and cleaning were done friday. ( every other week)
From everything i read on the fish forums here and there they seem to be as hardy as other danios. They are not dyed fish. They are a genetic modification of a pearl danio.
I suspect my old male danio may have hassled the young danios to death. he has been awful lately with the other fish in the tank - keeps chasing them around and bumping them.
