Fat Betta Sorority
So I have 6 female bettas and one male bettas in a 20 gallon tank. I was really nervous at first about the pair and about all the horror stories Ive heard, but 3 weeks later, everythings wonderful. The tank is heavily planted, with many hiding places, no violence, no dead fish, barely any nipped fins, the male is very docile and mindes his own. Anyway, there all fat! I only feed them enough to really eat 2 betta pellets every 2 days. Thats all, theyve all got huge stomachs. lol. Should I feed less or is it something else?

Do you fast your fish at all? If not, then I suggest you start doing that. Fish can actually go without food for 2 weeks. I would fast them for a few days while keeping an eye on them, then if they are doing really good, keep fasting them until the 2 weeks is up. Then start feeding slowly again. Once you start feeding again, pick one day that you don't feed them. Every week on that day that you pick, don't feed them.
Your bettas could be bloated, fasting them can help with this situation and get things back in order.

is the male fat as well ? what is the tank temp ?
it is possible that all of the females are full of eggs.....
if they are bloated i would suggest feeding them some vegetable flake food..

Try freeze dried peas, they seem to be a natural cure to everything.

post pics. Because he said "there all fat", I'm assuming that the male is fat too. Perhaps some dropsy causing disease or constipation? Vegies are a good idea.

here is the problem that i just can't seem to get through peoples heads no matter how hard i try.....
how about if you ate just pork chops every single meal , every single day of your life...
what would happen to you ?
you would eventually become sick and die....
THE SAME THING APPLIES TO YOUR FISH !!!!!!!!!
fish need a well rounded varied diet consisting of meaty foods and vegetable matter as well.....you can play with the peas if you want to...they work quite well...but it really is a bit of a hassle....and could possible foul the water if not eaten and not removed right away....i prefer to use both vegetable flakes and spirulina flakes each fed 2-4 times a week...and then a higher protein meaty type food the rest of the week...
this will " PREVENT " problems...which is a whole lot better than having to treat them...
so quit playin around and go order some Veggie Flake and Super Spirulina Flake from Grace .....

I would listen to loha because he does know what he is talking about. I am trying to vary my clown loaches and plecos diet so that they can be healthy and I can prevent many problems.
