Thumbs up 10 Gallons

Does anyone here have any interesting 10 gallon Fresh or Brackish water aquariums? By interesting I mean having some sweet fish, not like mine. As you can see in my signature, would you recommend any changes or additions to my tank?

Do you have a 10 gallon tank Scuba? If so, what are you pushing fish-wise?

Not too many cool fish can fit in a 10 gallon.

my ten gallon i spretty boring too, just guppies and 2 kribs. fun to watch them eat the fry though.

the swordtails wouldnt mind brackish. but the buenos ares tetra and probably the betta would hate it. oh and the puffer would kill them. But a puffer is pretty interesting.

i have a fig eight in 10 brack. the only thing you could really keep itwith are gobies...and the only gobies i know of that would work in a 10 are bumblebee gobies. you could have a couple of those w/ the puffer.

In my 10 gal I've got a pair of german blue rams, and some cherry barbs. I'm kinda pushing it spacewise, but they all get along. I've got lots of hiding places.

You guys have found some great fish to put in your 10 gallons. However I am wondering where you aquire such great fish: "German Blue Rams, Kribs, Puffers" . The petstores that I have access to are not known for having the most exotic type of FRESHWATER/brackish fish, at least I havent seen many or any of those type of fish - its just mostly the plain-Jane fish we all know about. Im sure some better fish come up once and a while at the stores. Anyway, back on track.. do you guys buy them at petstores or online or what?

You're not going to have much luck with anything aside from community fish if you go to Petsmart or and of the other big chains... Your best bet is to use the yellow pages to find the smaller, locally owned shops near you.

The locally owned pet stores will special order fish for you in most cases. Esp. if you get to know those that work there and the owners.

I got mine at the best local fish store ever. Look around in your area until you find a good one.

Check and see if there are any aquarium societies ("fish clubs") in your area - its a great way to find cool fish, and its often much cheaper than retail.

My choices for some cool 10g tanks:
shelldwellers (neolamprologus, etc);
peacock gudgeons
bumblebee gobies
killies !
dwarf gouramis
dwarf cichlids
(of course, none of these really mix well together, and most do best in very specific setups. A number of the fish I just mentioned do best on frozen or live food, and some will completely ignore flakes or pellets)

Right now I've got a 6g tank on my desk at work with a dwarf south american cichlid (laetacara curviceps), a baby ancistris "pleco", and a male "red-tail blue" variatus platy.

I've got shelldwellers (Neolamprologus multifasciatus ) in a 10g tank at home, a breeding trio of gudgeons (Tateurndina ocellicauda ) in a 15g xtra tall (they would actually have more room in a 10g) and at various times I've used a number of 10g tanks for killies and raising young dwarf cichlids like Pelvicachromis taeniatus

If you get a chance, check out Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine -- they usually have a column called "thru a small window" that focuses on neat fish for small tanks.
