Default hiding places

I’m so full of questions this week!
A’course, now I have money and can actually truly get into this! LOL

Anyhoo... I’m gonna make some hiding places for my fishies, out of yogurt cups and 1 litre and 2 litre bottles. After washing them really good, of course, and putting a thin layer of silicone (I’ve heard plastic can leak toxins into water over a long time), and then another silicone layer to ‘glue’ on black sand... since my whole tank is done in dark blues and blacks for the color theme.

Should I make them “caves”, as in leaving the bottoms on the containers, or should I make them tunnels, so fish can swim right through the cylinder? Or maybe a mix of both?
I just worry if a fish gets cornered in one, it’ll stress it to not have an escape route. On the other hand, maybe they won’t feel as hidden if both ends are open.

I keep telling my dad this is a therapeutic hobby... but it’s so complicated some times LOL

well i think a combo of both would be good. then the fish can pick and choose!
plus, it will look good.

btw, your idea is really cool.
