Default little Worm!!!

I just changed the gravel i had in my tank to sand. It's the moonlight sand you find at petsmart. after removing the old gravel, washing the sand, puting it into the tank, doing a water change, and feeding the fish some tetra freeze dried bloodworms that i bought from walmart, i noticed a small blackish worm like thing inching its way along the bottom of the tank. It looked similar to the blood worms but was definitely alive. it used it's head or mouth or whatever to kindof grab on and pulled it's body along. could this be a live bloodworm that was in the container? should i be worried? Anyone know what this could have been? I reached in, grabbed it, and smooshed it.

I have heard of people who have blackworms living in their substrate. I gather that they are not harmful to fish.

It grabbed on with it's mouth and pulled itself along by it?
Sounds like a LEECH to me.

i don't think it was a leach b/c of it's shape. I know leaches can stretch themselves out but even when i took it out of the tank and smashed it, it never widened out or anything. All of the leaches i have seen outside of an auqarium (ive never seen one in an aquarium) look different than this thing.
Thanks for everyon's help though! Keep it coming!
