Question Taking care of sand

is it harder to take care of sand than it is to on gravel ? I want to get sand and i just wanted to know how it would effect my tank, achieving enough bacteria, keeping it and maintaining it ?
thanks

Sand IMO is much easier to work with, as the debris doesnt go into the sand like it does with pebbles. Just lightly gravel vac over the top of it when need be. Wash it good before putting it in your tank, as for seedin it, just take some gravel put it in a strawberry basket thing and set it on top of sand it will seed the sand.

ok cool im going to get a syphon to clean the tank and do water changes, any good ones ? i see some for 9$ and some for 60$, whats the major differences ? some say you shake it in the water and it creates the syphon and some say to hook it up to the tap. i want the one that hooks to the tap, what are my choices on brands ? i looked at petco.com and saw one that went to the tap but it was 60$, any others ?
thanks
