Yes. As long as the water doesn't exceed pH7, then they should thive if fed correctly.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded:
Serrasalmus
Tetradon
(figure eights and dwarfs are the
exception).

I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families:
Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers.

can anyone tell me of some other fish that can be kept with them, maybe a pair of something larger that wont eat any of the fish, he doesnt want anhy neons, or gourami or angels, anything else, maybe a site to look under ?
thanks
he is starting to like the marble angels, so..
2 angels, 2 rams, 4kuhli, 6 cory and 2 pleco ?
is that a lot for a 40BR tank ?
and what are some pleco that he can get and have at least two of, i know they poop a lot and wanted to know about any that will poop less or just be smaller where it isnt such a big problem ? thanks !
also i has a large double filter, so i think it will filter the water a lot in case that helps with the pleco issue. Maybe some Jewels or convicts?

What size is the 40? Angels do prefer taller tanks, but a standard 40g is tall enough for them IMHO. I wouldn't put anything in there that could fit in the angels mouths though, although they aren't an aggressive fish, never trust an angel not to eat anything it can fit in its mouth.

If he doesn't want neons or cardinal sized fish, maybe suggest some of the larger tetras like black skirts or persellas. I wouldn't do barbs of any kind myself, but that is a personal opinion from past experience, they tend to nip more than I like.

Rams are find in a 40, and I'd say you could get two pair in there happily as long as it's planted and has room for them to hide in.

Also I would reiterate what was said above, everything you've looked at and suggested so far likes pH 7.0 or below... if his tap is too high pH to keep at 7.0 easily, I'd reconsider the rams and khuli. I would honestly test his tap, find out what is easy for him to maintain, and work with what fish he likes that work in those parameters.
