Does anyone have any experience in keeping these? I need some advice coz I really want a couple.
Will they be ok in a 13gal with a few other fish (I want 2 or 3 of these)? How hard are they to keep? Have you only managed to get them to eat live foods? EDIT Do they need brackish environments? Thanks. Last edited by Huugs; 07-19-2005 at 01:03 PM. |

yes, they need brack environment. ive never kept any myself, but they are quite small and shouldbe kept in a small shoal (about 3 of them). this way, their aggression is spread out among themselves.

I think ill have to give them a miss for while then as I dont think Im ready for a brack tank. I havnt even got my FW ones sorted properly yet! Maybe once Ive master the art of FW then Ill move onto the brack challenge.
O well Ill have to re-think my plan then. I really liked the look of them aswell. Cheers. |

Personaly I don't see the point in keeping them. Cons: They are expensive for their size, they're aggressive to one another, they need a specialized environement, they get picked on by larger fish e.g. scats and mollies, they get sucked into the filters at the LFS, and they don't live very long compared with a fish of a similar size. Pros: ??????..........they look like bees.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded: Serrasalmus Tetradon(figure eights and dwarfs are the exception). I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families: Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers. |

I dont think they pick on eachother much. they are easier to feed in groups, you dont have to use live, frozen foods work well too. I like them because they lack a swimbladder or something. so they "hop" around the ground.

I can see the bad points for them and I want to be honest and say I dont feel I have the experience to deal with brack yet let alone more challenging fish. Maybe the future as I do think they are really good looking fish. Thanks for the comments.

I have kept thesein with mygreen spotted puffer, in 5g cube, holey rock worked best as so manyholes for them, had 4 of them, feed and feeding frenzy on frozen foods and black worms. Only run $2/each here cichlidman lol not pricey, Ghost shrimp run $0.15/each here too lol.

They're brackish and they are quite hard to keep due to feeding. Live food preferred. Get along well with other bumblebee but may compete with other bottom-dwellers.
It's inexpensive here. Almost free...
