Default water change

well my dads been breeding for about 30 years he got out of it a couple years ago but i got him back into it but since we got back into it we've had trouble keep fish alive did the water change in lake Michigan in the last 5 years? our water sure has changed because out of the sink it's got a high ammonia reading of about 4.0 does anyone know if anything has changed?

oh and i forgot to mention we have been using ammo lock because of this

The best way to find out if your water quality has changed is to contact your local water treatment plant and ask them the question you asked here. I would definitely question them about the ammonia that you are finding present in your water.

did you add declorinator/ammolock before you tested the water? Some places use chloromine instead of chlorine. Chloromine produces ammonia when broken down by some dechorinaters. Plus ammolock isn't really that great of a product, it screws up your water testing, and you won't know what you really have for an ammonia reading. Someone here said that Aquasafe safely breaks down chloromine without the ammonia residue, but Im not sure how much of that is true.

IF YOUR AMONIA IS THAT HIGH THEN JUST LET THE TANK CYLE LONGER THAT SHPULD BRING YOUR AMMONIA LEVELS DOWN TO .0 mAKE SURE YOUR BIOLOGICAL FILTER IS WORK GOOD
