Driftwood changing color ?

i have been cycling my tank about a week and i just saw that my pieces of drifwood are changing colors. there seems to be a lot of new darker brown spots which might be algae but not sure, also i have seen a lot of hair-like algae growing around each of the pieces and was wondering if that is ok, but all that algea is white and looks like a spider web.
what is all this stuff and is it ok to have ?

Sounds like staghorn algae. Tends to occur with a spike in NH4 (ammonia). Remove what you can and keep the water matainence. After 3 weeks or so it should be gone.

so scrape away the algae or take the wood out ?
and is there anything else i can do to get rid of it ?
