Default Recommendations for salamanders?

Hi,

I have a 140 gallon aquarium, half filled. It contains small to medium sized fishes, a dwarf frog, shrimp, and snails. There is ivy growing amphibiously on the back wall, and a couple of stumps of wood breaching the water's surface. I plan on adding a floating island filled with fine sand, a cave or 2, and maybe some small plants for aesthetics.

I am looking to add a couple of small semi-aquatic salamanders to the mix, but I'm not sure which species would be appropriate. I figure the smaller the better, for the safety of the other tank mates. In the past I would have just bought eastern newts, but I haven't seen them around here in ages. In fact, all I have seen are fire-bellies and tigers (no good). I'm under the impression that the fire-bellies would not be a good choice. (right/wrong?)

As an aside, if anyone has suggestions for other creatures that could live above the water line in my setup, I'd be interested in hearing them too.

Thanks.

Chris

Why do you think that wouldn't work for fire bellies? It sounds fine to me, they just need a place to get out of the water once in awhile.

What I'm concerned about with the fire-bellies is the safety of the fish I already have. Amongst the bigger fish, I have a few guppies and white clouds. LARGE ones, but still. Would they, and the dwarf frog be safe with them?

Basically the general rule is, if the frog or newt can catch it, they will try and eat it. Alot of this can be taken away if you see to it there not that hungry and there getting there food. Blood/black worms work great.
