Flower pots in fish tank?

I have noticed in a lot of pics on the net (of aquariums) that alot of fish-keepers have painted flower pots in their fishtanks. What kind of flower pots are safe (clay, terracotta, plastic) and what kind of paint is safe (water-based acrylic, etc)?

acrylic paint is probally good water based will dissolve into the water

I use terracotta pots in my tanks without problems. Some have been in my tanks for 7+ years. I would avoid homemade pots for peeps taking classes at the community collage. These can contain lead and other toxins. I personally avoid any pots that are painted.

What kind of flower pots are safe (clay, terracotta, plastic) and what kind of paint is safe (water-based acrylic, etc)? __________________ 44 bowfront - 1 red cap oranda, 2 fantails, 1 sailfin pleco, 3 golden dojo loaches 20 tall - 1 red cap oranda recovering from his mishap 10 long #1 - male betta, 1 praecox rainbow, 7 albino cories, tiny sailfin pleco, and snails 10 long #2 - male betta, 4 bronze cories, 4 peppered cories, small sailfin pleco, and snails 5.5 bowfront - male betta and 3 ADF's Buddy - 8 year old flatcoated retriever Sandy - 4 month old miniature poodle
