Hi:
I have one 15 gallon tank and a new 20 gallon tank. In my 15 gallon tank, I have 2 fantail goldfish, one corycat, one frog and one black mystery snail. I learned that goldfish need 15 gallon + 10 gallon per additional goldfish. Is that correct? Usually, you see goldfish in much smaller tanks and bowls. I'm not sure how I'm going to reorganize my fish now that I have a new tank, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would like to set up my second tank (20 gallon for tropical freshwater fish. I would like to have 2 kissing gouramis. 8 neons 8 tiger barbs 2 cory cats 2 shrimps 1 frog maybe a bristlenose plec. Is this all compatible? In my 15 gallon, I would have 2 fantail goldfish 1 snail Could I add a black moore and a lionhead or would that be overstocking? According to the info I read so far, I couldn't add anything.... Thanks! Sylvia |

Goldfish need 20-30 gallons per fish. (Some species get larger than others).
As for your stocking of the 20 gallon, it will not work. I'll break down your fish here........... 2 Gouramis: This will work 8 Neon tetras: This will also work with the gouramis 8 Tiger barbs: This is a no-no. Tiger barbs need a 30 gallon tank or larger due to the need for swimmin room. They may also nip at the gouramis. 2 Cory cats: Can work but you need to add 3 more 2 Shrimp: What kind? Although most will work. 1 Frog: Probably not a good idea. Too much waste and not suitable for these fish in a tank this size. 1 Bristlenose Pleco: Why? Though it could work, these stocking levels will require good filtration, and regular waterchanges. Neons are hardy fish.

I agree with Simpte (beat me to it
Goldfish need a hell of alot of room, i suggest advertising to sell them, putting them in a pond.. or giving them back to your LFS, that way you'll have another tank to do what you please with I know it may be hard giving them up, but keeping them in a 15... even a 20gal will stunt their growth, allowing their organs to outgrow there body and they will die painful deaths, give them up before they die, please. Your tank may be a little overstocked if you add all that.. maybe you could use the 15gal for a snail/frog/shrimp tank? I suggest giving away the goldfish pronto.
