A while back we had a discussion going over how do you acclimate new fish. I found this fact sheet on a new product that is suppose to solve this problem. Unfortunally it dosent really say a whole lot or even have photos of the product to show how it works.
http://www.aquariumdesign.com/PDF/FASfactsheet.pdf Does anyone have any ideas on how this works? |

I think that it's a chemical which calms the fish down a bit like stress coat. I personally think that it's just another scheme to try and rip people off.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded: Serrasalmus Tetradon(figure eights and dwarfs are the exception). I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families: Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers. |

It is made of " acrylic sheets", so it is not a chemical. I don't see how it solves the problem, but I would like to see more.

To use co2 to adjust the ph level sounds good. But how is it that keeping a fish in a bag for a short period of time would allow for big increase in Ammonia? I think it would be worth looking into if you do a large volume of fish but for someone that only would do ten fish? I don't know. Waste of money? It just sounds like it is another way to do a drip accumalation.

I have never delt with shipped fish before but I would think that the sooner the fish could be out of the bag water the better. I have to agree with Ron V and say that it sounds like a rip!
I have to correct my statement buy saying that shipping a fish is how a big build up in Ammonia could occure. I thought that is was for buy fish and take home and it was about buy fish and wait for shipping two very different things. My fault. Last edited by pokagon55; 05-01-2006 at 02:35 PM. |

I didn't see any prices but it does seem expensive. Lots of parts needed to care for just a transition of fish. Not counting the amount of space needed. Unless you run a store it seems a bit much even though they say they have made it affordable for most people.

Doc, I'm gonna say it again. The best way to introduce fish to your aquarium after overnight in a shipping box is directly from the bag to the aquarium. No floating the bag and no drip in the bucket. The more I experiment, the more convinced I am.
And it is certainly cheaper than that gadget. |
