Default Please Help, Ick Problem

I went out of town for the weekend and had a friend taking care of my fish. When I came back I noticed one of my tetras had what looked like little specks of sand on him and the sides of my tank seemed to be coated with a later of film. Anyways from doing research last night I've come to the conclusion the tank must be infected with ick. So I went out today and bought a product called "Quick Cure" which was recommended by fellow fish tank owners.
My question is the bottle says use for a maximum of 3 treatments but I have read some people using it for up to 14 days. Does anyone have any experience with this product that can tell me what they did?
Thanks

Ok,instructions are usually on the back it tells you what doses to give. How big is your tank what do the instructions say I will caculate it for you if you need me to. And make sure you are not using carbon while giving treatment it will make it not work I would reccoment moving him to a hospital tank if you have one and you could crank up the temp it will make the treatment go faster and the good news is if a fish has been treated for ich I've heard it will never be infected with it again I hope this help and give us feed back about your fish

thanks for the quick reply....Yea I have followed the instructions on the back, it says 1 drop per 2 gallons for tetras so I put in 10 drops as I have a 20 gallon tank. I removed my carbon filter before I put the drops in.

And even if you think your fish is better just keep putting it in just to be safe.

The back of the box says 3 treatments is the maximum and if fish have not been cured by then do a 25% water change everytime a treatment is administered.

The treatment I used was " Wardley Ick AWAY" That worked great and the directions were "Discontinue Carbon filter use keep temp. 75-80 degrees Fadd 1 teaspoon if ickaway per every 10 gallons repeat every 24 hours until symptoms dissapear"

You need to treat for three days, and do a gravel vac to suck all of the dead ick cells up. After that do another treatment and so on. You should countinue doing this until atleast 2 days after all signs of ich are gone. Also you can raise the temp to about 85 if your fish can tolerate it.

For Tetras you have to use the malachite products at 1/2 strength.
I raised my tank temp to 85*F and dosed my Rummies and Cardinals like that for 2 weeks w/o gravel vacuuming or water changes and have been Ick free for quite awhile and didn't lose a single Tetra.

I agree temp needs to be raised higher, i would just raise the temp and not even treat with medication! medication as last resort.

they will be perfectly fine, the pleco's really only need that low of temperatures if your trying to trigger spawning.
