I have 6 really small ones in a 10 gallon and they do great. They are the only fish in it though. When thy get bigger i will have a bigger tank ready for them.

I would say non because of the size of the tank, and the fact that i hate them lol

I voted 0. Tiger barbs are schooling fish and need lots of swimming space

Tiger barbs are too active and boistrous to be housed in such a sized tank.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded:
Serrasalmus
Tetradon
(figure eights and dwarfs are the
exception).

I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families:
Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers.

interesting, considering the guy at the fish store about 5 years back said they could easily go in a ten gallon and i should get a minimum of 5. i ended up getting 3 and then about 3 years later got a 45g and they went in there and i got 3 more, then two died and i decided to get some cichlids and so the remaining 4 got put into the 10g. although i did not intend to keep them in there, i jsut havet got around to fixing a broken tank that i got for free. once thats fixed they will go in there. i was just curios to see if anyone thought they could go in a 10g or not.

well if we're talking *possible amount that can survive in a 10g* then yeah 3-6, but the point is for fish to be happy and in an environment as close to nature as we can possibly emulate and that would be no smaller than a 55g so that they can school and have lots of swmming space - so yeah, anything smaller than 55g of course they can be , but should they be? nope. I realize most of you know this, but it's always good to elaborate for beginners with similar questions that come across the forums and read

a similar question can be compared to one like *can a rottweiler live in a 1 bedroom apt?* yeah he can with lots of love and one human owner, yeah he can even be kinda happy -- but should he be in a 1 room atp? no - they are more suited and ideally happy in a much bigger apt - more like a house with a yard and with lots of outdoor excursions - to be really happy and healthy. You also shouldnt have lots of chihuahuas in a small apt for the same reason. Of course there are always exceptions to every rule, but for the most part, we need to be reasonable and respect animals' needs, and fish are no exception.
