Default Airator a need?

is an airator in a fish tank a need or just something extra? the air going into my tank from the airator has made my tanks very cloudy, water is clear when its off

An aerator IMO is not technically necessary. A power filter provides oxygen into the water and if you have any plants that will do it too. But it all depends on what your setup is. In our 29 gallon we have a aerator pump propelling our little house ornament's water wheel, it provides gentle bubbles(oxygen) in the tank, but there are also plants that do the job.

Its definatly not a necessary thing to have. Some people just like the look of them, others dont. Although when water is at a higher temp, the less oxygen it holds

I don't understand why bubbles make your tank cloudy. Is it stirring something up?

Not needed but nice to have a pump and stone on hand in case of emergency. Like for example your electric goes out for an extended period of time you can set up the pump and stone so that when you get power back you can get O2 back in the tank faster. You can even get battery powered ones for just this reason.
