heres my wack at it:

1.) of course you should have some live plants to make your fish happy in a small tank like that
2.) i see you already have a male betta so why not get a female(or 2 ) in there and stick it there with some cherry or ghost shrimp
3.) you might be able to get around 4-6 tetras in there
hope this helps

i wouldn't put the tetras in there seeing its a bit small but a betta would love it.

i hate fancy guppies but regular feeder guppies are awsome plus they are cheap . like 20 cents a peice. you can put a few in for your betta to chase and if they spawn its just free food for betta

Pea**** gudgeons, though they are difficult to fid are very nice and 1 or 2 fit in a 5 gallon. A few Least Killifish is another hard to find but very good choice. 2 Dwarf Puffers would work with enough plants, it would help if both puffers were female, or a male and female pair, but no male and male...mmhmm..... I'll get back to you with some other choices

You could put some shrimps in there or like fishboy said a dp but usually it is 1 dp to every 5 gallons.

I'll go with the family and say Betta. + the addition of a few feeder guppies is an EXCELENT idea. Will keep your Betta busy and as it was said, free food!!!
