Default Neon Tetras Problem

yes well my little brother has 5 neon tetras in his 6 gallon hexagon shaped tank and theres a bit of a problem, since we got them 2 weeks ago they are always hiding in the bank of the tank at the bottom, when ever flake food is dropped in the never even see it or eat at all, i have not seen them eat anything for 2 weeks and they are still alive, any one know how to solve my problem?

Try adding some java moss to the tank, the more places they have to hide the more you will see them. (Really) Also they will start eating if they feel comfortable.

How long has the tank been up and running. Is it cycled? How was it cycled? Neons are very sensitive to water conditions. Try doing a 20% water change and see how they act. Are there any other fish in with the neons?

i dun reccomend hexes.

Is your tank located in a high traffic aea? (like a place where peeps constantly go past?

If so, try rellocating it.

Also, a hex in the middle of the room is not a good idea, movement all around can disturb you fish. It is better if there is a front and back if u no what i mean.

Oh and see if you can add a few more of those fish.

there is not really a lot of people that go in there and its in the corner of the tank, I think it was clycled for 2 weeks, I decided to clean out the whole tank since it was looking kinda gloomy and they are a bit more active. but they are still not noticing the flakes so i decided to drop some sinking granules in there and about 2 of them got 1 but most of them fell to the bottom of the tank

search this forum for a topic about cycling, there are many good ones, after you read that whole thing, go get a test kit, (for ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite, and ph..) test your water for all of these and get back with us. we can go step by step, but i think your tank hasnt cycled, and neons dont do well like that.

here... i found if for you, read this post. http://www.fishforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7125

If you have a couple of dollars you could go to the petstore and get some cycling aids like biozyme. Follow the directions on the package and that may help.

I'd get stability or biospira instead of anything else, these products have the right bacteria in them to cycle a tank, the others usually don't, and may actually hinder the cycle.

You don't have a choice!!! The tank will cycle whether you want it to or not.
