i found a 125gal tank with drilled overflows for $75. How much would the rest cost?
filter? hood? stand? Also, I found the same size complete set up (everything included) for $500. I also found a 90gal complete set up including the stand for $200. Which is the best deal? Also, how many GPH does the filter need to be able to pump for a 125gal tank? Thanks! |

Go grab that 90 gallon for $200. Great deal! The aquarium itself would cost that much and if it comes with all the equipment you need then you will save many hundreds of dollars!

It sure is. The best deal of the three is the 90, but you'd be nuts to not grab the 125 if you can along with it. You could resell it for enough to pay for the other stuff you'd still need for the 90.

Yeah, I can't decide between the 90 gal and the 125 gal...
It's such a great opportunity to get the 125 gal for that cheap... But then again it might be expensive to gather evrything that I need for it, including the stand, hood, filter, etc. If I gather all those things separately, would it end up costing me about $500, cuz if then, that 125 gal complete set-up is pretty much worth it too. And the 90 gal's a great deal. but I'm afraid that eventually, my greed will take over and I'll want to upgrade to a 125 gal... I have a 55 gal right now. |

If I had to choose one of the three, I would pick the 125. You just don't find big tanks like that very often. As far as how much it would cost to get everything else... I don't know. If you can do any DIY stuff ( like maybe the stand and hood), you should be able to get a nice setup for a lot less than $500.

Because you're in SE MO. LOL!
Just kidding; we actually have some half-dozen FishForum regulars from your little cape area, so there must be something available. I got a nice deal myself yesterday-- a 75 gal for $60. It's just the tank, though. Luckily I can build better cabinets than I can buy. A 90 with everything is a much better deal, I think, than a 125 with nothing, ( especially one that's been drilled, and therefore a bit more limiting. ) |

The best that I can find for a new 75 gal (tank only) is $75 which is great, but most used stuff I come across people think that they should get what they paid for it.

i got my 150 for $650. It came with two eheim canister filters, each rated for up to 160 gallons, 4 hoods, all with working lights (the tank only needs two of these hoods), a glass top, really nice black stand, two heaters, air pumps, media for the filters, boxes full of decor and other random things, lots of flake food, frozen food....i think i got a wicked good deal for what came with the tank. The only thing i didnt get with it was fish, and he even offered me some, lol. All of the decor in my tank (all of the sunken ship stuff for those of you that have seen it) came with my tank. I got it used but in incredible condition.

The want-ad papers are usually no good place to find deals around here, because people want too much for their used stuff. The problem is that most of the petshops in this area are concentrated in the expensive beach towns, and they have accordingly high prices, which gices everyone an inflated idea of how much things are worth.
That all changes after a hurricane, though, when incredible bargains abound. If I could just save up a couple grand, I could make a bundle buying up all that cheap stuff and selling it for normal prices a few months later when people had money again. |
