Default 29 gallon rock setup

Hey everyone. i recieved a 29 gallon tank wiht a fluvel 302 canister filter from my bosses wife for free (yay). i also had a friend move away and he gave me a few african cichlids for this tank. since then some have passed away and i have done lots of research on the fins hand foun that these may not be the right fish for a tank this size. i have heard of over stocking the tank etc but i dont want to run the risk of losing anymore. my fish are also staying behind the rock most of the time and will only usually come out at feeding time so my tank looks pretty bare. i dont want them to be unhappy anymore so i thought i may just sell the remaining two (1 yellow electric and 1 red zebra and 1 common pleco) and get a new setup. the problem im having is i purchased tons of rock for this tank and i wanted to find a suitable setup where i can still use these rocks and not have to tan\ke them all back and try and sell them back to the lfs. any suggestions on what fish would enjoy a full rock tank (29 gallon)? i also have a 50/50 actinic 03 blue/daylight strip that im using for complete light. should i also be using the regular light along with this? thanks in advance.

see, thats the problem with posting at work! i cannot remember the correct name for the rocks but they look a bit like lava rock only lighter in color and much heavier. its the rock that i see in most cichlid tanks. sorry about that. the PH is set for cichlids at around 7.5 or a bit higher...i need to test it tonight actually. i love the colors of these cichlids but would rather have somthing a bit easier to care for and not overstock. if i have some good suggestions on a different type of fish i would just adjust the PH for the new breed.

thanks!
