Default Aquarium salt

Do freshwater fish need acclimation to a tank with aquarium salt. Since I have a diseased fish and I can't put salt in the main tank for a number or reasons I want to set up a quarantine. I will be putting the fish from no salt to salt, will this be OK?

A Dwarf gourami with the recommended dosage of salt on the aquarium pharm. package. 1 rounded tablespoon per 5 gallons.

Just a note about aquarium salt. You can use Kosher salt from the grocery...$.97 for 1 lb compared to $1.50 for the small box with the words "Aquarium Salt."

I have salt in all my tanks and when I buy a new fish, I acclimate it by adding tank water to the store water over a 1 1/2 hour period until there is 2/3 of my water compared to 1/3 of theirs. So if you add the recommended amount of salt in small quantities spread out over a 1 1/2 hour time frame it will cause the fish no harm, as I have not lost one because of the salt yet.

I will probably add a half-dosage and then put my fish in and in about an hour and a half I will add the other half of the dose.
