Default Glass catfish

Hey guys,
According to this website.
http://timstropicals.com/Compatibili...litySearch.asp

Glass catfish are compatible with my serpae tetras. Anyone here ever have them before? Are they hardy fish? I'm planning on getting some plants soon.

Any tips on keeping them?

Do i still quarantine them the same way with the salt and medication in case they have any diseases?

thanks

Default re:not hardy, but very neat

Hi,
I had these catfish for years. They are not at all hardy. In fact they're one of the more delicate fish that I've kept. They will greatly appreciate plants and shaded places where they can hover. I've never kept serpaes, but mine did well with my rummy noses. I'd definitely quaruntine them since they're so delicate and mine seemed to arrive sick frequently. However, I'd be careful using medications if they don't have any symptons as you really don't want to stress them anymore.

Good Luck,
Sven

they are very sensitive. I had them (6) in a tank with serpaes (12) and they had a hard time feeding. The serpaes are very quick to eat so it was diffecult for the cats to get food. I had to take the cats out.

hope that helps.

I think glass cats are pretty timid also, so keeping them with rambunctious serpaes may not be a good idea. I think like in girth vader's experience, they would have a hard time getting food. It would be better to keep them with more peaceful tetras.

I think Glass Catfish need to be kept in schools, but I'm not sure.

I have two. When i bought them they were laying on their sides gasping for air but now they're fine. I have a tough time feeding them with 6 harlequin rasboras.... they are nocturnal feeders and spend most of their time hiding and should be kept in schools(im about to add 3 more). They are scaleless fish so half or 2/3 dose when treating for ich and other nasties.

thanks for all of the info. I decided against getting the glass catfish for now. I've got some pretty nippy fish in the tank (serpaes) and i think being a somewhat blind catfish, it would wreak havoc on them.

Glass catfish will have no problem feeding whatsoever if you were to feed them at night.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded:
Serrasalmus
Tetradon
(figure eights and dwarfs are the
exception).

I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families:
Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers.
