Default Most regrettable fish-related purchase

I saw this thread on another forum and it was pretty funny so I thought I would start one here.

Mine would have to be the "goldfish" bowl and 2 common goldfish I bought at wal-mart on a whim one day about a year and a half ago. Wow was that a mistake of epic proportions, lol. But I geuss it did get me to dig out my parents old 10 gallon and atleast try to make a good attempt at fishkeeping

Easy...let me set it up real quick though.

We had a tank of tetras, barbs, rams, et cetra when I was a kid. Heavily planted 30 extra high...really neat looking. My dad was out of town on business and (like I always did) I went to the LFS with my grandpa). There was a guy there who was trading in a 8" oscar for some small J. Dempseys and I loved the Oscar. I bought it from the manager and put the bag in a paper bag like always. My grandpa just assumed that I bought some food or a pleco like usual.

When I got home, I was so excited to see a big fish in the tank. However, over the coming days, I noticed that the other fish were disappearing little by little. Being 8 years old, I didn't even think about the fact that a fish would eat another fish. That was until I saw a tiger barb behind sticking out of Oscar the Oscar's mouth!

I thought that my dad would be mad, but we just had an Oscar tank for a couple years instead.

My most regretable hmmm. When I was 8 I bought 6 tiger barbs to go in my 30g tank with neon tetras, guppies, a silver dollar, a betta, and some other tetras. They started chasing them right away and I called my mom and told her they were playing tag, let's just say I lost 3 fish and my mom took the barbs back.

2 Columbian Sharks in a 10 gallon. I hadn't done any research prior to the buy and was assured by the Walmart employees that it was perfectly fine.

OK so when i first started i bought an african cichlid and threw him in my SA tank. big mistake. he was fine for a couple weeks....then he got comfortable and started digging everything up and attacking everything. i gave him to my cousin that has an african setup and had a big mean acei(i think) the acei was 2x my fish's size. mine ripped his apart in 3 days. whoops

My current 38 gallon tank, stand, and hood... I should have gotten the 55 or 75 setup for the extra $50-100. I had the money.

a koi in a 10 gallon? wow...

probably the spotfin butterfly fish i bought from an lfs. they assured me it was eating frozen brineshrimp, but big surprise, when we got it home it ate nothing and died of starvation because it wouldnt accept anything we offered it.
or maybe it would be the tinfoil barb i used to have....he was a great fish, but he became too aggressive to keep. he was a great, peaceful fish for a long time, but once his aggression started to kick in, it was pretty bad.

a red tailed shark for the 55, was to mean to all the tetras and would go outta his way to pester them, plopped him in a 10 gallon and he is now best buddies with my BN.

also a siamese algae eater. very agressive and very hard to catch

My first tank, a 1.5 gal and 2 goldfish. That's what got me hook on fishkeeping. Needless to say the goldfish got a larger tank really quick and are alive and well in their 29 gal today (13 fish tanks later).

Hmmm.. wow a lot for me to say. When I first started:

Two wasp fish, two weather loaches, a butterfly fish, a couple of bumblebee gobies, a black ghost knife, and some other odd thing all in a ten gallon. Oddly I didn't have any problems other then the bumblebee gobies ganging up on the knifefish.

Hmmm..another would be the pacu I took from my cousin. Got a little over a foot, ran into the side of the glass two months after having it, and died. Although it ruined my tank (ammonia and waste wise) and made me go through a bucnh of trouble, pacus are still to this day one of my favorite fish.

THEN,,,, a hijueta gar, a needlenose fish, red tail shark and 30 feeders, and a tiger shovelnose catfish all in a 15 gallon. Hijueta lived a year, gave it to my cousin, and it jumped out the first day he had it. Despite having a cover and and it being in a 10 gallon with no top for half a year when I had it. Needlenose got fungus and died, shark was eaten by the shovelnose after about 3 months. ANd to this day the shovelnose is STILL alive and pushing over a foot long in my cousin's tank.

Finally, the baby muskie I had in a 60 gallon. Cousin took it and the shovelnose from me ate it.

Well i;m bored so felt like typing.

My five clown loaches that I worry about constantly -- how am I going to provide for them appropriately considering the large size they get? What a misguided purchase.
