the water from my tank is sent through a sock while entering the sump, I was wondering if I could help keep the water clear by filling this sock with filter floss, or if there was somewhere else I could keep floss to keep the water clear.
Also I have seem some things on fluidized bed filters and have read that they keep the water really clear, but how do they work? Do they work well? Would it be a good idea to add one to my 112 g? |

Fluidized bed = ultimate nitrate factory.
These are fine for tanks with a heavy fish load that needs to be kept fish-safe, but they're otherwise a bad idea. Floss is okay, but remember that your floss will need to be cleaned every day to prevent it becoming clogged, fouled, toxic, or a nitrate producer. |

ok, now how would i clean the floss? Would it be the same way I clean the sock? How should I go about doing both of thse? Rinse them in treated FW?
How about a UV sterilizer, I've heard that they can do really well, but wouldnt it just take away food from all of the filter feeders? What's the best way to make sure that the water will be clear? The water in my small tank is clear, but there is stuff floating around in it (it has no skimmer and very little mechanical filtration) would the skimmer in the new one with the sock with floss keep it clear? UV filters kill good and bad organisms. I would just use the filter floss and rinse it every couple days.
