every couple of days I have to fill the tank with about 2 gallons of FW to make up for evaporation. I use amquel to treat the water before adding it to the sump. I have been testing the water to watch for the nitrate, but so far, after the cycle, have yet to detect any nitrate. Will the amquel mess with the reading? How long should I wate so that it will be out of the system so that I can get an accurate test?

I wouldn't imagine it would mess with the reading. My question is this, did you have any die off from the liverock or any fish in there to create nitrates?
