Default Plastic mesh for mushroom tray

I have this plastic mesh, like the type you use on a screen door... can I use that to cover a mushroom tray?

Is there any way to tell if it's going to be toxic? It's not painted, but it's black plastic.

It doesn't smell or taste like anything.

As long as it is indeed Plastic and not metal screen the it's fine.

Is a whaleeye shell too smooth for a mushroom to attach to?
