Due to a lack of time/money I am converting my 5ft Marine Tank to Tropical. With the arrival of my Daughter i have failed to find time for my Tank. I have sold all the fish and now i'm left with rock and coral sand.
My question is, how do i go about changing over? I have already drained the saltwater and filled with clean tap water. I have repeated this process twice. Can I keep the sand and rocks? Any info would really help. I know i will need to change filtration parts i.e media and sponges etc. I am in no rush to add fish...i just want the conditions right. |

I would take everything out, scrub it with a scrubbie and tap water (rocks i guess) and rinse the sand out really well. Let is dry out b/c ne live stuff still dieing will cause cycle problems in the FW.
I really dont see why you couldnt use the same stuff, just make sure get rid of all of the living stuff.....maybe you could use the die off as the ammonia for ur FW cycle....like you would in a SW set up... I'd like to hear from someone else on this, but I think you could just rinse the sand well and scrub the rocks, but it all back in with dechlor tap and let it cycle |

i would have sold everything and bought new sand and base rock, could have made a good amount of cheddar! but since you already did it, i agree, pull it all and clean the heck out of it, hose it out, pressure wash it, what ever you can do, then reassemble.
