I absolutely agree that there should be more stringent enforcement about better housing of fish in petstores, but I disagree with involving PETA because once they get involved not only will petstores not be able to keep and sell fish neither would anybody else for that matter and that includes the private sector of fish keeping.

Thanks and I agree I'm not a crazy Peta person just want these animals treated fairly not perfectly. Perfect is only found on the reefs and unfortunately that isn't the case either anymore. Tim

I agree with you also. Something about PETA has always scared me tough especially after I heard that they thought bee-keeping was cruel and inhumane to the bees!

I do think that something should be done so that fish are kept in better conditions in Petstores and that petstores should't be alowed to purchase fish for resale unless someone has proper training and know how to care for them.

PETA is a malicious organization that doesn't care about science, or about the people they hurt and the animals they hurt in the process of the malicious activity. I suggest that you only send this to Petco, as PETA tends to not care about anything that doesn’t have hair or feathers.

I’m going to have to air on the side of caution and keep these “political” threads off the forum for now until the mod team can fully review what legal ramifications this could include…

PETA is the mortal enemy of fishkeeping itself. There is a lot more to say about it, but I won't for legal reasons.

Petco is already phasing out saltwater in most of it's locations, so the need for this petition is greatly lessened.

Petitions also wind up getting the attention of politicians, and they tend to feel a need to do something even when they don't understand exactly what the problem even is. That can't be good for anyone, especially not for us responsible fishkeepers who would no doubt be made to suffer much more than your intended target.

As such, I have no choice but to shut down this whole thing. Please rethink this strategy before pursuing it any further, as you are well on your way to causing a tremendous amount of harm to those who don't deserve it for no good reason since the results you wanted are already happening.

One more thing: Your petition asks for the impossible. The law can't stop one single company from doing a legal thing, because that company is incompetent, when it holds no other companies to any such competency standard. It can only either do:
A- nothing
or B: shut down the whole hobby in the interest of fair trade, which it won't do in a sagging economy in an election year.

Your petition also started out okay, keenly focused on petco, but then it veered off into a bunch of environmental filler that doesn't address the petco problem directly and only makes the whole hobby look bad and imperils it.
This is a very bad petition that needs a lot of work. Actually, it needs scrapping and replacing with something better.
