Default Rest in Peace my friend...

Well.... Something very strange happened yesterday. The day was going normal. I awoke to the noise of my mantis shrimp hitting rocks (nothing new) So I go to work and around 2:30pm I get a call from my room mate telling me she thinks my Mantis Shrimp Amadeus is dead. I was very skeptical on this because the shrimp was alive just 6 hours earlier. Well, when I get home from work I find the shrimp, dead in the tank. My room mate said that the shrimp was just hitting stuff like normal and then she heard a really loud click, much louder than normal, then silence.. When I found the shrimp it was missing one of it's raptures it uses to hit stuff. The thing that gets me is this shrimp was so active, it was eating on a regular basis, and was visually healthy (no shell disease).

RIP

Keep on clubbin'!

Something tells me he didn't perform an autopsy. The good news is the little guy beat out nine live fish for the TOTM contest.

They are one in the same...at least according to Wiki and we all know that Wiki is 100% accurate, hehe.

After asking around, I believe what had happened was that Amadeus was nearing a molt and when threw his last blow, he broke his arm off and bleed to death. Talk about a way to go out! Mantis shrimp have trouble clotting blood in different areas so it is very likely what happened. I tested the water and it was all fine so that is the only explanation.

Autopsy is for humans, necropsy is for animals.

s13, this is a real shame. I really did enjoy seeing this guy in the beautiful photos you posted. Sorry about this.

Do you plan on getting another peac0ck?

Yes, I do plan on getting another peac0ck and plan to have him in a bigger and nice tank. I'll keep you guys informed and plan to have the new tank set up and a shrimp within 6 months.
