Default New to Breeding

I've never really tried breeding, it kind of just happens if you ask me. I really wanted to start breeding my Harlequin Rasboras since they look sweet and I don't have as many as I want to, and I dont want to purchase them when I know I can breed them. Can someone give me some details on what to do? Possibly even helpful sites?

well...for starters, you need a male and a female. females that are in season are typically alot plumper than males. those are the eggs. from what i have heard and read, you need to condition them on live foods and such. blackworms, bloodworms, brineshrimp, etc. it also helps if you seperate the sexes. when they are ready, put them in a planted tank with the water temp a little over that of the water they came out of. then let them have at it. once they have spawned, remove the parents or they will eat the fry and the eggs. make sure you keeop the eggs' tank porperly airated or the eggs will die...not good. after the fry have hatches and are free swimming, feed them BBS or green water(pondwater...lots of tastey microscopic organisms in pond water) once they get big enough, start feeding them adult brine shrimp and finly cruched flakes and black worms.

That is how i would breed them. i have never breed any fish other than guppies but i am currently working on breeding zebra danios and white clouds if my lfs would ever get me somew brineshrimp.

this is by no means the "right" way i am sure. that is just how i have read to breed zebra danios and figured it would work the same way for harlies. like i said earlier...the first step is making sure you have a male and a female.

good luck

Andrew

im sorry i havent posted in a couple days. truth is, i really couldnt find this thread -_-. anyway, yea i have read thats usually how you breed any fish, but i think im going to try it with all my other fish in my 38g. If they do breed and eggs are laid, ill transfer the eggs to my 5g, after taking my guppies out until they are large enough to jump back in with the parents. i have read that you can gently scrape the eggs off of anything with a razorblade, but VERY carefully. ill give you details if it happens.
