How long does breeding last?

So I was watching my fish and I noticed one of my male guppies following one of my male and female platys around. I could see that he was attempting to mate with the female, but I don't know if it happened. He would get there, but for like a half a second. Then the male platy would come and do the same to the female platy. Then that male guppy would follow and try on a female guppy, then a female balloon molly. So I don't know how long it takes for the male to do its thing, or if that split second was enough. Any advice? Also, if my guppy and platy have babies...what will they look like and what do I call them? haha

sounds like guppie love. the time all depends. mine have taken eaither a long week or a month. and then the little one might be eaten. so just all depends. guppies to breed like mad though

I guess I want to know if that little second he was trying got the job done? Heh. He was even trying at the male platy and he wasn't having that. I would love lots of little fry babies And I know it will happen. Just wondering if I just witnessed the process of my next batch being fertilized...?

ok, i just realized it wasnt too guppies. the guppie cant mate with the molly. And if it does find a way to you will probly get a mule thing or the molly will eat them. if you want to breed just go get a female guppie. she will get larger then the male, but he will still chase her around and one day you will notice a small one. REAL SMALL ONE.

OK so the same male guppy is now trying to mate with a female guppy. Again I have the same question on how does the mating have to be for them to get pregnant? And then it takes like 21-40 days to have the fry...? Again thanks for the info.

well mine will mate through anything. i think it just takes some time. you can try making sure the water is at the right temp. Also feeding them some black worms also helps. Mine seem to crazy if i give them some live food and heat it up a little. i read somewere that the worms make the females more fertile. i dont know for sure, but they get a ot of food and most animals mate onces they have enough food sources. as for time. all depends on the fish's i guess.
