Default Hi I'm into Danios

Don't know how it happened... had some Zebrafish when I re-started in 1999. I started playing with long finned Blue Danios (Danio Kerri) short finned Pearl Danios (Danio albolineatus). I actually have not had any Zebrafish since the initial batch of 1999 and the last one passed on in 2003.
Lately I've been raising Gaint Danios (Danio aequipinnatus or Danio Malabaricus) which has been fun, but forced me into larger tanks.
I have 4) 10 gallons, 6) 20 L's, 1) 20H, 1) 25, 2) 29's and 1) 30 breeder.
The 25 is my tank in the living room, and there's no Danios in it, it has 12 Neon Tetras and 8 Harlequin Rasboras. Two of the 10's are not in use. Everything else is.
I have very young fry (about 2 weeks) in both 10's. They are Pearl Danios. In the 20H are the adult Pearl Danios and I think this is tight for them. In the 20L's I have two with long fin Blue Danios about 5 weeks old. The parents are in a 3rd 20L. I have Giant Danios that are about 8 weeks old in the other three 20L's. The parents are in the 30. This is definately tight. I'm looking for another tank, maybe a 55 gallon.
I have about 20 White Cloud Mountain Minnows (Tanichthys albonubes) in a 29 that was divided until this weekend. 10 are about 8-12 months old. 10 are about 3 months old. The fry are heading to the LFS this week for $3 store credit. The parents will be encouraged to breed more.
I don't make a dime off of breeding, but I do enjoy it. When I retire, I'd like to own a LFS.

Welcome to the group. I have several giant danios myself and they are fun to watch. Constantly in motion and easy to tell if they arnt feeling well because of that.
Please feel free to roam around the site and get to know us a little better.

Breeding Danios is hardly anything to brag about. I have moderately planted (1-2 real plants, 4-5 plastic plants) 20L tanks. Sometimes I use 10 gallons, but I'm phasing them out. Instead of gravel, I use glass marbles over sand for substrate. I'll generally put 3-4 males with 6-8 females.
I don't play with pH (7.0 steady) or temperature (76-78° steady, depending on fish). I feed them well with Tubifex worms. I check in the morning and evening feedings for spawn. I check in between feedings as well. I spend about 90 minutes a day with my fish, because it keeps my mind right.
Takes about 2-3 weeks sometimes. Then out they go! They go back to staple flake too. I try again in 4-6 weeks. Once the parents are about 18 months old, I look for younger fish to breed.
I don't use a power filter in my "breeding tanks" instead I use a Lee's triple flow, medium sized modified with tubing and the cartride holder from an UGF filter to make it a "turbo corner filter" this somewhat strong stream flowing the long dimension (vs. short dimension) of the tank seems to make them happier. The flow is comparable to that of a small power filter.
Choprae Danio look very cool. I've yet to find anyone selling them locally. I've only seen them on the web.

I was wondering about that 1 warning when I saw it myself...

I participate in forums for my profession. I am the senior partner of a small NYC area bus company. At least twice a week I find myself driving a school bus. Sometimes because somebody calls out. Sometimes because we have an extra run. Sometimes because I like to meet handicapped children riding one of my eight school buses. We also operate (but don't own) a bus for elderly and hadicapped as well. I enjoy people and it doesn't matter if your income last year was $100 or $100,000 to me. I deal with people that make our problems seem insignificant and try to remember how fortunate I am.
There was a driver having problems at work and perhaps airing some dirty laundry. They eventually kicked him off. I know this because he has e-mailed me since. I thought the actions were extreme, like this public warning attached to your posts in big red letters.
I hate to see flame wars, but it seems this sort of thing happens on all sorts of forums, no matter the topic. I believe in open discussion. I believe it is wrong to belittle another person. I don't know you or your history, so let this be a fresh slate.
