Hello, all.
I'm really more of a reptile and amphibian person. I have an Eastern Collared lizard, White's tree frogs, Fire-bellied toads, and a Mali Uromastyx. However, I recently moved in with my girlfriend and her two children. They had a large Comet goldfish, and two cory catfish and a female betta in a 15 gallon hexagonal tank. The tank was obviously too small, so I donated a 55-gallon tank to the cause. Since then we inherited a butterfly koi, 3 apple snails, and 2 small plecostomus. I am currently building a backyard pond for the larger fish.
Here is the Comet, the Koi, and one of the Corys...

Thanks. His size is why I'm building the pond. I'm a believer in "bigger is better" (as far as living space) for just about any animal.

Ignoring the tail fins, his body is a little over seven inches long. My girlfriend's daughter got him about six years ago. It was a ten-cent feeder fish. The Cory in the picture is actually about a year older than the Comet.
BTW - I've been doing all the feeding, and the Koi and Comet come up to the glass when I enter the room. They don't do this when anyone else enters the room (we've checked).

Welcome to Fishforums! Thats an awesome picture of your little beggars. Most of my fish beg, but they do it when anyone walks near the tank. The size of that Comet is something I wish everyone that buys the feeder goldfish could see so that they'll get them a decent size tank or pond....they can get huge!

Nice comet. I have a few orange comets and sarasso comets in my pond. The first fish in the pond was a comet we bought at about 6 or so inches and he's pushing a foot now.
How big do you plan to build the pond? I'll be interested in seeing how it turns out.

The pond is still in the planning stages, so I don't know what the final size will be.
