my daughter got a betta fish in a cup right after xmas, and since she is 4, I was the one mainly taking care of the fish - now 2 months later I have lost my mine, have 2 10 gallon tanks, 1 20 gallon tanks, a lot of fish, plants and bogwood and rocks, and am trying to figure out how many tanks I can plug into an outlet and not be a fire-hazard as I plan for more! Oh, also have snails and shrimp, and crabs - I've gone life aquatic psychotic! This is so much fun!!

Ahaha! You're suffering from a bad case of MTS-multiple tank syndrome! You'll find there are MANY people on this forum with similar symptoms! Be happy, at least you can do it--I live in a college dorm with just enough space on the end of my desk for a 15 gallon tank
Welcome to the forum

Welcome to Fish Forums!
Let us know if you need any help and give us a listing of what fish you have. We love to see lots of pics too! Using a multi plug surge protector bar, you should be able to run two tanks per bar with the minimum equipment for each tank (heater, filter, airpump, light) per two plug wall outlet as long as your house wiring is up to code and you have adaquit circuit breakers. I don't recommend using the small multi plug things that plug directly into the wall socket or regular extention cords for more then one tank.

walmart just made it worse.. while looking for a small heater for my new hospital tank I was going to set up, I founfd they had this 1 gallon 'all in one' setup, with undergravel filter, mini air pump, and light in the hood for light and heat, for $9.42. Needless to say I limited myself to two, and now 1 is the hospital tank, where my shimmying molly is recovering, and the other one has some boy guppies we are getting away from the girl guppies for the sanity of the girl guppies. But now I have more room in the other tanks... hmm...

Welcome! It sounds like you've been quite taken with the hobby.
Be careful with plugging too much stuff onto the same circuit. If one of the devices shorts, it could knock out the entire circuit thus shutting off the heat to all of your tanks. |
