hello to you all!!
i was given a tank for christmas and am loving having my own tropical fish. i have encountered a slight problem however, which when you hear it you will put down to my complete inexperience! i have some barbs which i have been informed are suitable for a community tank, however in my overeagerness to get colour in the tank, the barbs by the way are a silver colour, i bought a few male guppies, these are now losing their tails!! is it the barbs or are the guppies prone to fighting amongst themselves? any ideas what i should do? it is quite distressing!! cheers becca |

most barbs are nippy...I think tiger barbs are the worst. and cherry barbs the least nippy.

Welcome to Fish Forums, Becca!
As Bob stated, most Barbs are nippy. You say yours are a silver color....do you know what type? It's most likely the Barbs that are nipping the guppies. Can you make a post about it in Beginner Freshwater and list information about your setup (tank size, number and types of fish, water changes schedule, filter type)? That way we could be sure its the Barbs.
