typing from Trinidad....
been keeping fish for 20 yrs on and off, bred mollies, convicts with blood parrots. trying my hand at a planted tank seriously for the first time- 36x18x18 this was done over last weekend, still have to find some neon tetras and discus to populate it. advice from the elders is welcomed as i have come here as a humble student. bless!! |

Very nice! I did a double-take, I could have sworn those were real plants! It looks like some might be?
I'd suggest filling it up a little more! Your tank is about 50 US gallons, but with how you have it filled, it looks like it's missing a good 8 of 'em Welcome to Fishforums!

its a mix of fake and live, more live though, look carefully lol
it cant fill up more since it has a hole drilled in it for the filter hoses on the rear glass so i left with 4 inches short |

You could plug the hole with a piece of glass. Simply silicone it into place.

I didn't see that, angel, but actually, now I do. Maybe its to protect the edges? I know I have a chip out of one edge of my tank because I wasnt careful moving it. Or maybe the glass is a little sharp there.

Welcome.
I wouldn't do Discus just yet, they're very fragile when it comes to changes in water conditions, the water conditions are very specific. Go with Tetras for now, (Discus later; when you can control the water conditions consistently for a long period of time). FYI, the holes in your tank make it ideal for a wet/dry filter. |

a 50 gallon breeder is one of my favorite tank sizes.good depth and surface area.
are you currently using an overflow system or did you just get the tank that way?.easy to fix if you want to as com said.i have had several like that. what is the PH of your tap water?if it s 7.0 or below, you shouldn't have too much problem with most species of fish.even discus as long as you keep them warm.

i just got the tank that way,
the tap water in Trinidad typically is neutral, although i have not tested it in this tank as yet. i got 2 pairs of blue rams and 2 pairs of dwarf gouramis in it now. all seems fine!! |
