I'm switching to a new tank, My fish seem to be cured of ich, Still treating tank. I wanted to bring some of the old tank ornament to help tank cycles plus I'm adding a couple of cheap fish, (, I was told that was the only way to cycle the tank) But now I'm afraid some ich eggs could be imbedded in the big rock? Is it safe to move ornaments?
How long do I cycle my new tank for? Cindy1218 |

Is this a fresh or saltwater tank? Very important.

Never heard of ich eggs. I don't think they exist. But if it would make you more comfortable, I would wasjh all the ornaments in hot water. Continue to treat for the disease if possible. and let the tank cycle.

IR sharks get huge FYI (3ft). I would just continue to treat the tank and go with a fishless cycle on the new tank... where you add an ammonia source and then wait for your tank parameters to become 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10-40 nitrates

Ick "eggs" don't exist, but the daughter cells could be compared to eggs reasonably enough.
Anyway, yeah, clean the ornaments before moving them, and make sure your fish are fully cured of ick before moving them, too. Use "Bio-Spira" or "Stability" to make your tank ready to use immediately. |

if you leave your ornaments out overnight to dry, all the ich cells will be gone. Drying them out kills them

Agreed let them dry out. Leave them out for a week if you want to be real sure. Or even after dry you can put them in a bucket and treat it just like you would a tank with ick. Rinse again and they will be all set for your new tank.
