Lol start a whole chain of stores! I would love to see you put some of the places around my section of New Jersey out of business. They are so rediculously overpriced... I've seen some 125 gallon tanks priced at my LFS for 2500 dollars and up. I'm so disgusted at it.

Yeah, I don't know what these guys are thinking trying to charge that much. This LFS is the only one within the area and they overprice EVERYTHING. I mean it is a nice tank, and a good wood stand, but it is still so expensive. I wish I could get away with only paying 250 for everything you got euRasian. I don't even think it comes with the lights or hood. As for now I'm stuck buying the kits from Walmart, they seem to be the cheapest, although I would love to have a 150+ gallon tank, it just doesnt seem in my buget right now.

I still don't think 2500 dollars for a 125 gallon is a reasonable price. I think they throw away customers in that department with it.

Lol if I had the time I would definately build a nice aquarium myself. It's just there arn't many LFS in the area so they charge whatever they want. The only other pet stores are chains like petsmart and petco. So if you want an extravagant tank, you need to have a lot of money here.

Oh ok... however, a DIY tank is not easy anyway. You gotta do the measurements, use a diamond-head knife to cut them right? use glue (I dunno the English name for it) to get them together. Blah blah...
If you dun want to go to the local fish store, I think there're glass stores huh? Can we order a tank? I think they'll accept to. Just look for the thickness of the glass (depends on the volume of water, I think)... About the stand, the previous one of mine was cut off from a shelf he he

Yeah the thickness depends on how many gallons you are putting in, and we bind the glass together with silicon. It wouldn't be an easy job which is why I would probably subdue to the 2500 dollar tanks in my area.

So let me get this straight, Petmax... you're saying that if one of your customer's floors is destroyed under one of your tanks that you'll buy them a new floor? We already know that Perfecto and others won't honor their own such guarantees, so why do you?
Regent is only Marineland under a mass-distribution contract, and do you know who really makes WalMarts' tanks? I suppose Tetra is crap, too, since wallyworld sells so much of it? Let me tell YOU a secret. WalMart's prices are as low as they are because they buy in more bulk than anyone else can. Sometimes quality can be an issue, sure, but it often isn't. There are three aquarium factories within a two hour drive, so that drives prices down a bit around here, but sheesh! That 19 hundred dollar setup you described would only cost around 1100-1200 down here anytime, and even less after a hurricane, although you'd expect the opposite. I understand your frustration, and I've felt it myself. Berating your customers isn't the answer, though. Telling your customers that they are stupidly consigning their fish to their doom because they're buying Tetra-Min from WalMart instead of from you doesn't do one bit of good for your business or image, and revoking the warranty for it only justifies their decision to shop elsewhere in their minds. You seem to have some serious customer service problems. Since service is the only thing you can really offer your customers that they might actually appreciate, may I suggest fixing them first? It won't save you by itself, of course, but it's a start. Customers only care about two things: themselves, and price. If you can quit making them feel bad, they might not mind paying your prices. There is a book called "It's Not My Department" by Peter Glen. ISBN# 0-688-08896-1. Published by William Morrow & Company, 105 Madison Avenue, NY, NY 10016; copyright 1990. I strongly suggest that you find a copy. It won't be easy, but it will change your life and possibly save your business from any further competitor's onslaught. Ironically, I bought my own copy from Walmart for 2 bucks. Sour grapes make a lousy whine. Price, quality, service, and selection... it takes all four to win these days, but it's impossible to HAVE all four. The three you DO have must be really good to even survive, so it's important that you strive to maximize these assets. |

yes i do own my own store. The TOS, trust me, i dont have customer service issues nor do i have a problem with customers period. I have a huge repeat customer base and it still continues to grow. And if you can find a 220 setup cheaper, by all means thats great. But me personally, i havent.
