Old fish, Inherited tank - New owner
Hi guys, its a good site.
Straight to the point. We inherited a tank (which was seriously grotty but we got it good) with a mature pleco and three x-ray tetras, which I assume are also full size as we were told the tank had not been added to in the past 3 years.
We added 3 platys and a Siamese fighting fish (after being assured he was ok to add to the tank?).
Would love some info on what or how many more fish to add now. Its a 16 gallon tank, has live plants, hiding areas, bogwood. I'll try to add a pic if I can.
Hope that is enough info, let me know?

I should probably add that I'm certain the female platys are pregnant but we'll deal with that when it comes.

The only problem I can see coming is that the betta might kill the other fish or the other fish might nip it's fins. I would say you are good on your stocking and should add more fish unless you are willing to do more water changes.

I think what he meant to say is you should NT add more fish unless your willing to do more water changes.
Oh, and welcome.

Welcome to FF
I would ask what kind of pleco you have, while hoping it is not a common.
With the Betta int he tank and the parents I wouldn't worry about having to take care of the fry, they will be eaten by all tank inhabitants. That's probably a good thing as they will overwhelm your tank pretty easily.
I would add only 2-3 more x-ray tetras (they like groups) and be done with it. Normally I would say to add a centerpiece type fish, but your Betta will have to suffice as that as anything else in there with it will get nipped. The tetras will get nipped but they are fast and can probably avoid him fairly well. If you see the betta nipping your fish you need to get rid of one or the other. Nipped fins can get infected and cause other issues. The platties are more likely to be nipped than the tetras.
