I had a 10 gallon aquarium for quite awhile and I'm ready to upgrade with the brand new 29 gallon that was recently given to us. So, I came here because I plan to plant this aquarium which I've never done before. I plan to have a freshwater community tank so I'll be lurking on other forums to verify compatibility of species and types of substrate and so on. Glad to have found this place and looking forward to all I'll learn!
Eco-complete is really good substrate for plants. It's also black with little red rocks interspersed in it so your fish and plants really pop out. Make sure to invest in some decent lighting for your plants too depending on which kinds you want to grow.
