Another Newbie
Hello all,
I'm just really getting into fish keep now, my mother has kept a tank up to 20 gallons since I was young, I helped, but didn't really learn what it took to keep a tank until now. I have a 75 gallon aquarium that was housing 9 Black Ruby Barbs and 10 Golden Barbs, but I noticed some water that was apparently coming from underneath the aquarium (not good), so I just tore it down today and put the occupants into my 125 gallon that I had just set up. Once I reseal the 75 gallon, and move the inhabitants back, I'll stock the 125 with something.
So, once I'm done, I'll have a 75 gallon with AC110, Fluval 405, and a couple number 3 sponge filters stacked on top of each other and 660 powerhead pulling through them. The final stocking for the 75 will be
10 Black Ruby Barbs (might just stay with 9 or go up to 12)
10 Gold Barbs
10 Tiger Barbs (mix of regular/green/albino maybe)
5 Zebra Loaches
and was/will be moderately to heavily planted.
The 125 may be a South American Cichlid tank (still thinking on it and will ask opinions in another thread), it has a play sand substrate, light plants, a Rena XP4 Filter, and another filter TBD. I have a number 2 spongefilter that I'll put in there too, but not sure what a solid back up filter I would want. Might just do a smaller XP filter.
So right now I'm running the Xp4, AC110, Fluval 405, and the sponge filters on the 125 (that's plenty of filtration for 19 small barbs, haha). I even put some gravel from the established tank in there for over kill.
BTW, my name is John, most people call me as such, and I'm from Virginia.
Anything else just ask.
John
Just hope people here are a little nicer then the last forum I was on.

my planted mess of a 75 gallon. I'm not much on design and orderly.
My 125, still setting it up, having to put the barbs and plants in there has put it on hold.
I still need to get some rock/slate to dress up the 125 so the pipes and pots don't look so crappy.

Welcome to FF! Most folks here are pretty nice and find this to be a friendly place to hang out.
Glad you made it our way. I like the 125 so far. Are you going to add any rock type scapes for the Africans when you get that far? A 125 with Africans would be awesome.

Welcome to FF. I haven't met anyone that I could call mean on here. I'm sure we could all help you with that 125 gallon. Good luck.

Thanks all for the welcome and yes, I'm planning on adding rocks/slate to give the "caves" and tunnels a more natural look. I just haven't located any locally yet. I'm also not much a design and creating something very appealing is difficult, so we'll see how it goes.

So where is "here"? maybe there is someone here who can help with sourcing. I call chaotic "natural" and pipes "modern". Honestly the fish don't care, and that is what matters. I have a pair of rainbow cichlids, heterotilapia multispinosa that would likely spawn in one of those pipes.
If you replace the pipes with more plants or wood, that tank would look awesome filled with some geophagus or related fish.

Closest area to me is Charlottesville Virginia. I'm south of there by just a few minutes. I am definitely going to add more plants than what is already there. I'm going to add more floating plants as well, the fish seem to like the cover. I'm game for a remodel once I figure out exactly what I want, I've got a thread over in Beginner Freshwater about stocking.

Thanks everyone, the fish haven't drown so I guess they don't mind the mess too much, haha.
