Hi from West Ky
New here but not to fishkeeping. I got into it when I was a kid and received my first aquarium for Christmas. I remember it so well. It was a metaframe stainless 5 gallon with a slate bottom. My how times have changed. But I still remember my excitement of setting it up and buying my fish at the local shopping plaza at the Kuhn's department store. That was 48 yrs ago. Fond memories. Anyway I still enjoy it. Nice forum.

Welcome to FF,ric44! Still using my metaframe slate bottom- the tanks may change, but the thrill of fish keeping always stays the same!

I have a friend who lives in the Keys, and I have done some scuba diving in the keys--it's kinda like you have a great big aquarium all around you, isn't it?

LOL!
Not Key West, but West Kentucky.
Somewhere down in Florida I found a petshop that has been up & running for a very long time. For the life of me I can't remember where it is, though. GRRR!!
It's a really neat little place. All the tanks were set up just like you'd have them in your house, fully planted and everything.
How did I know the place was old?
All the tanks in the fish section were Metaframes! Man, what a glorious sight.

Hi from West Ky
Welcome to FF. I'm probably your closest neighbor here in Louisville, no one else seems to be from Kentucky.

ric, I didn't realize KY was so cold! Are you near the mountains? (and yeah, I'm thinking Key West would be nice, about now, as well) What kind of tank, set up, fish do you have now? I got my start as a child, also. It's funny, the magic of that first aquarium never leaves...I had moved a long distance, and put the tank away for a few years, but when I got it back out and running, it was like Christmas, New Years, and a birthday all rolled into one!

Hi from West Ky
C. King, here in Louisville, (east Kentucky we had temps in the teens, slightly negative with wind chill. Weather here is wacky, we get really hot and humid summers and freezing winters.

Visited Louisville once-fell in love with an area called "old Louisville"that had lovely victorian homes in it! and yet, the downtown area by the river was quite modern and new! Best of both worlds!
