New and inquisitiive

Hello, my name is Sasha. I'm an oddball kind of girl, if it isn't bizarre to look at then it should at least be very different.

In my apartment there are 13 different tanks and bowls total...

One is a twenty gallon brackish tank, with three orange chromides and a juvenile green spotted puffer. He seems to be doing well in it, too.

There are two 2.5 gallon freshwater tanks, one with three leopard danios and one zebra danio, the other with a female betta.

There are 9 good-sized bowls, two are female bettas and the rest are males. We tried to keep all of our females together once, but they fought too.

The final tank is my favorite, a ten gallon not-quite-brackish tank. It's infused with marine salt, but not at a high enough level to be called brackish. In this are two kuhli loaches and my 4-inch violet goby, who will be moved eventually to a bigger, saltier tank.

My question is: I plan on getting an African Butterflyfish this weekend for the ten-gallon. I know they are freshwater, but does anyone know how tolerant they are to salt? Can they handle brackish water if acclimated, and if not, can they handle a little marine salt?

welcome, You are not alone. There are many of us here with multiple tanks.

I would not put a butterfly fish in a salt or even breckish tank. They will do best in their natural environment

I don't know about the addition of salt with an ABF, but do keep a tight cover on the tank with no gaps, if you didn't know that already. I do know that ABF's are in the boney tongue class, and closely related to the arowana.

Off subject but speaking of Eurasian, how is your arrowana?

Very well, thank you. It's around 7-8 inches now, and once I clean up the algae on the glass and trim my plants, I'll get some new pics up. Here are the most recent ones.

The blurry pics are right after I added more sand, and the clearer ones are three days later.

Well, as I stated in the other thread I posted, I moved my violet goby to a true brackish condition, so the salt question is pretty much fixed. I can keep the water fresh for my butterfly, when I get it (Which, due to the worm situation, won't be for a little while.) Thanks for all the answers though!

The arowana looks great. There's a 12 inch one at a local aquarium store called Jan's, that's what made me realize I like them.

Also, I think it's great that everyone was so friendly! So many messageboards are full of people who have nothing better to do than be rude... So far, this place seems nice!

You will probably notice that quite a few of us are from the midwest. MI, WI, and IL. All wondering what fish are in that big lake we surround. LOL
