ya...im new! for the past two yrs I have had 2 goldfish that my girlfriend won for me at the fair. they started off miniature and now have gotten to be huge...or so i think. anyways i started them both off in a small 5gal then upgraded to 25gal. i started getting all into taking care of these fish and spoiling them since they've been swimming strong for 2yrs now....i didnt know goldfish live that long..haha
i just upgraded again for my boys. i bought an Eheim 72gal wavefront tank with an Eheim Pro II. its awesome btw. i've always done gravel but wanted to try the whole sand thing. i did my reading and ill be going over to lowes tom. for some crystaline silica quartz sand. had a ques. before i start tho.. dont want to get off wrong on something this big.. - can i use crushed coral in a freshwater tank? if so...can i mix crushed coral with the crystaline silica sand?? i just thought it may look pretty good mixed up. any other advice or tips would be good too. TIA -Adam |

no crushed coral in a gold fish tank - it will drive the PH up to high for them

You can use crushed coral for an african cichlid tank, but not for goldfish like georgia peach mentioned.

Welcome and I now exactly what aquarium you have I saw it at petsmart and it's very cool looking. People mostly just use crushed coral in either saltwater or in an African cichlid tank because it makes the water very har and have a high ph. Which I believe goldfish are happier around a neutral ph. Just to make a suggestion have you ever seen Tahittan moon sand I don't think it will effect your water and it looks pretty cool here's a link http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...pc=1&N=0&Nty=1

No I don't believe lace rock will effect the water. I found it at Petsmart . But I would try all of the petstores in your area one of them is bound to have it.

I have crushed coral in my silica sand, It is a pain to clean. It looks ok but I think the sand alone would look better IMO. just some FYI for you. And it is not good in a goldfish tank.

you may be able to get the TMS at your lfs, but it would probably be cheaper just to buy offline.
